2-D Analysis of Enhancement of Analytes Adsorption Due to Flow Stirring by Electrothermal Force in The Microcantilever Sensor

چکیده
1 Graduate student 2 Professor ABSTRACT Ac electrokinetic flows are commonly used for manipulating micron-scale particles in a biosensor system. At the solid-liquid state there are two kinds of processes in the reaction between analytes and ligands: the mass transport process and the chemical reaction process. The mass transport process is related to convection and diffusion. Total or partial limit of mass transport would retard the diffusion from the bulk fluid to the interface of reaction. This effect decreases the possibility of adsorption of analyte and ligand because the chemical reaction is faster than the diffusion. In order to solve this problem, we apply an ac electric field to induce a vortex field by the electrothermal effect, which helps in increasing the rate of diffusion. By using the finite element analysis software, COMSOL Multiphysics TM (COMSOL Ltd., Stockholm, Sweden), we optimized several parameters of the microelectrode structures with a simplified 2-D model.

AC electrothermal enhancement of heterogeneous assays in microfluidics.
AC-driven electrothermal flow is used to enhance the temporal performance of heterogeneous immuno-sensors in microfluidic systems by nearly an order of magnitude. AC electrokinetic forces are used to generate electrothermal flow, which in turn produces a circular stirring fluid motion that enhances the transport of diffusion-limited proteins. This provides more binding opportunities between sus...

A combined electrodeposition-ETAAS technique has been applied to the analysis of Pb, Cd, Co, Ni, Cr and Mn in biological samples in order to overcome interferences and to minimize sample pretreatment. It requires minimal sample preparation with the electrolysis process aiding partial decomposition of the organic matrix, adequate for the release and deposition of trace elements. In an initia...
متن کاملElectrothermal stirring for heterogeneous immunoassays.
A technique is proposed to enhance microfluidic immuno-sensors, for example, immunoassays, in which a ligand immobilized on a microchannel wall specifically binds analyte flowing through the channel. These sensors can be limited in both response time and sensitivity by the diffusion of analyte to the sensing surface. In certain applications, the sensitivity and response of these heterogeneous i...

One of the bio-sensing mechanisms is mechanical. Rather than measuring shift in resonance frequency, we adopt to measure the change in spring constant due to adsorption, as one of the fundamental sensing mechanism. This study explains determination of spring constant of a surface functionalized micro machined micro cantilever, which resonates in a trapezoidal cavity-on Silicon wafer, with the ...
